Michael Rom is a historian of modern Jewish immigration, with a focus on Latin America. He currently holds an SSHRC Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, and previously held research fellowships at the Center for Jewish History, the University of Cape Town, and the University of São Paulo. In 2019, he received a Ph.D. in History from Yale University. His publications have appeared in Jewish Social Studies, the Jewish Quarterly Review, and the Luso-Brazilian Review. As a Starr Fellow, he will begin research on a new book project, entitled “From the Nile to Tietê: Egyptian Jewish Immigration to Brazil.”
