Anita Christensen
Norwegian School of Theology, Religion and Society, Oslo
Anita Christensen will spend the fall of 2024 as a Fellow at the Center for Jewish Studies (CJS) at Harvard University. She is a Ph.D. candidate with masters’ degrees in Jewish studies from UCL and the University of Cambridge. Before returning to academia, Christensen worked in the fields of publishing, human rights, and cultural heritage in Europe, North America, and the Middle East.
Her Ph.D. research investigates the revitalization of the Yiddish language in contemporary Sweden, a subject that has not previously been researched, despite Yiddish’s status as an official minority language in Sweden for over two decades. Based on her fieldwork in Stockholm, Christensen’s research examines the effect of the status on the role of Yiddish at the individual, communal, and state levels, and engages with critical heritage studies, language revitalization research, and minority policy analysis.
