Oz Tamir is a PhD candidate in the Department of Jewish History at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he also earned his B.A. in Jewish Thought and General History (magna cum laude) and his M.A. in Jewish History (magna cum laude). Tamir’s research explores Jewish-Christian relations in Late Antiquity, with a particular focus on biblical interpretation and the cultural dynamics between East and West in the late Roman Empire.
Tamir’s dissertation, supervised by Professor Maren R. Niehoff and Professor Yitzhak Hen, examines the works of St. Jerome as a lens through which to better understand the multicultural society of Late Antique Palestine. He studies the Jewish interpretive traditions embedded in Jerome’s writings, tracing their varied origins and analyzing the ways in which he engages with them.
Oz Tamir’s work has been supported by several fellowships, including the Rottenstreich Fellowship for Outstanding Doctoral Students and the Mandel Scholion Interdisciplinary Research Fellowship.
