SEMPHIL 154 – Ge’ez (Classical Ethiopic) Language and Texts

After an introduction to Ethiopian Semitic and the documentary and literary sources for Ge’ez, most of the course will be dedicated to the study of grammar, starting with exercises in transcription and gradually advancing to the Ge’ez script.
In the final segment of the course, we will read portions of texts in Ge’ez. The selection of texts will be tailored to the students’ interests.
