This course constitutes the final level of Modern Hebrew language studies. The course offers representative screenings from contemporary Israeli documentary cinema and forms a basis for discussion about major cultural and linguistic themes through academic readings. The key themes are the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, gender dynamics, climate and environmental issues, religion and secularism, Holocaust remembrance, and Israeli collective memory and trauma, all through the prism of Israeli documentary filmmaking.

Course Notes: Not open to auditors. Discussions, papers, movies, and texts presented only in Hebrew. Course sessions are 1 hour and 15 minutes long.

Recommended Prep: Modern Hebrew 130B or equivalent.
