Sophia Schmitt is a research associate and lecturer in the department of Jewish studies at Ludwig-Maximilian University of Munich (LMU), Germany. A scholar of medieval Jewish history, she studies the social, legal, cultural, and economic relations between Jews and Christians in medieval northern Europe, with a special interest in the history of violence and social spaces. Schmitt received her PhD in Medieval History from LMU, where her dissertation showed how Jews in the southern German Empire benefited from local and supra-regional networks in their defense against anti-Jewish violence in the fifteenth century.
