The Center for Jewish Studies at Harvard mourns the death of Professor Yaakov Elman.  Professor Elman was a Harry Starr Fellow in Judaica, Visiting Scholar and long-time Associate  at the Center where, together with Professor P. Oktor Skjaervo, he was one of the founding figures of Irano-Judaic Studies.  His scholarship on  the Tosefta and on the Babylonian Talmud revolutionized the modern study of Rabbinics.  He will be sorely missed by his many colleagues, students, and friends.
